Delving into the world of natural dyeing is a slow, deep connection with the wonderful world of plants. Coaxing the colour out of plant materials is a wonderful alchemical practice with endless potential!

Join us this Spring at the market garden for a day of Natural Dyeing. We will be slowing down, stepping back in time and working with open fire and water to create your very own samples of natural dyed wool & fabric.

On this course you will learn:

-The practical skills needed to dye fibres and fabric with plants

-The importance of mordants and modifiers to affect dye colour

-Create your own unique set of naturally dyed samples

-The knowlege and skills to continue your dyeing journey as well as multiple hand outs and written information for you to take home

Although we have indoor space to work if the weather is bad, we recommend bringing warm clothes and wearing suitable outdoor clothing.

Due to the nature of the course, we ask that all attendees are over the age of 16 and that any under 18's are accompanied by a paying adult.

Learn to Spin Wool on a Drop Spindle

Enjoy a day learning the traditional ancient folk craft of drop-spindle spinning at our market garden in Dorset. We are passionate about traditional crafts and want to share this with other people, helping to keep these traditions alive.

On this course you will learn:

What is a drop-spindle?

-About different types of spindles

-It’s history, uses and why so many people still use them today

-How to set up a Drop-Spindle and different techniques you can use

-Come home with your own drop spindle & spun yarn

Each attendee will be set up with their own drop-spindle, which they are able to keep after the day is finished, rovings of wool to start spinning with and will be guided through techniques to begin spinning their very own yarn.

We will have a selection of different fleeces to show, examining the different qualities of them and how this changes and affects the spin quality.

We will then stop for lunch. A hot meal created with produce grown on-site, tea & coffee and a chance to have a break and get to know the other attendees.

After lunch we will talk more about problem solving, will demonstrate how to ply your yarn and how to make a skien. There will be plenty of time for people to practice their spinning and ask for advice or questions.

You will come away with the knowledge, tools and skills to be able to continue your very own drop-spindle journey at home.
